Delegates visit Auckland projects to see community leadership in action 29 March 2007

 

Delegates saw first hand the impact of the: integrated safe, responsive and sustainable transport solutions for the Auckland region that comprise Keeping Auckland Moving project. . During this study visit delegates visited Britomart, a transport, heritage and urban renewal project. The Britomart transport centre links train, bus and ferry services and is an important component in developing Auckland's transport network.

Other delegates visited Papakura, where they met community representatives and heard about the Progress Papakura community plan which is delivering a vision for the future through partnerships with community agencies, busineses, iwi, local and regional government. The project provides services such as a health clinic, family start, social services, and other activities to the Papakura Marae.

A surprise performance by Hon Mark Burton, Minister for Local Government, was a highlight of the Conference Gala Dinner, held at the award winning SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland. As well as the Minister's solo performance, delegates were treated to traditional New Zealand entertanment.
